There is now a set of love birds in the tree behind my apt. A red Cardinal and his fine lover chirp to me as I hang out and smoke cigarettes in the blistering heat. Occasionally, they hop down and hang out with me. If I’m watering the ivy or the daisies, they hang out on the fence under their tree and commiserate on neighborly things.
I told them to keep an eye out for Minnow. She’s the sweetest kitty in the whole alley, but sweet or no, a tiger has it’s stripes for a reason and so does Minnow. Though, I did put in a special request to Minnow to be nice to our new neighbors and specificly, not eat them. She just looked at me somewhat disdainfully and, as she was lying on her side, gave me a curled paw a few times which I took to mean, “Fine, if you’re asking, but if it was anyone else, I’d never agree.” I thought that was nice of her.
But this beautiful Cardinal is just too much. He sings and is the most brilliant red. The picture in the linked page is dull compared to him. His hue is a color that has held hostage of that unattainable red in a lipstick – imagine, the woman with his color on her lips might find themselves the subject of much discussion, salacious or otherwise! And the desires she could elicit – and here it is, the charm of his lovely misses. I should mention to her that she is a lucky spirit to get to enjoy such magnificence.
