I went before the court
to protest for my heart
and all the jury stood
to say it should not start.
I went before the judge
begging mercy on my soul;
he rapped his gavel hard
saying I’ve the heart of a fool.
I went before the gods
to plead for an appeal
though they stood firmly
that a theif can not steal.
I take my condemnation
with a solem swallow
and demand kindness
for all those that follow.
This life of stealth
and shadow’s deceit
have left my heart empty
and my body in defeat.
I ask for no forgiveness;
I have done all that they say,
mine are the sins of fear
that come from too much rain.
